Rookie goalkeeper Nick Pope has signed a new contract at Charlton after making good progress with the League One leaders.

The 19-year-old, who was snapped up from Bury Town by manager Chris Powell last summer, has committed himself to the club until 2014.

“We are extremely happy Nick has signed his new deal,” Powell told the club website.

“My staff and goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts have been delighted by his development in the short time he has been here and we look forward to him making further progress.

“He’s already a popular player within the squad and is clearly benefiting from the day-to-day training.”

Pope has been on the Addicks’ first-team bench twice this season in the FA Cup and has also had spells on loan with Harrow Borough and Welling United.

Meanwhile, the Rochdale match, as widely anticipated, has been rearranged for Tuesady 21 February with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Football League requires clubs to play postponed matches as soon as possible after the original date and 21 February was the first available opportunity for the Addicks to get the game on.

Versatile Estonian defender, Enar Jaager, is currently training at Sparrows Lane. Jaager is a free agent and available to sign outside of the normal transfer window.

More commonly used as a right-back these days, he was on trial at Ibrox last month.

Both manager Chris Powell and skipper, Johnnie Jackson, have been nominated for the Football League January awards.

The Addicks won four consecutive league games against Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Exeter before drawing 1-1 with Bury on the last day of the month.

Jackson contributed two stunning free-kicks which defeated the Sheffield duo but is up against Huddersfield’s prolific marksman, Jordan Rhodes. Rhodes netted five times in a match against Wycombe during January, so may edge Jackson for the award.
